Supplement 5 Scans

I should probably be focusing on a work-related project right now, but because the fifth and final supplement arrived last night, I'm getting my scan on instead.

• s05_01.jpg - This is Chris's "I'm getting steamrolled again, and the saddest thing of all is I'm pretty much used to it by now" face.
• s05_02.jpg - Shannon/Zeffiris isn't so creepy in the novels as it is in the anime. (Side note: Chris was talking to Shannon and mentioned that "If you would marry Cernes Lulu Giat for us, it would help strengthen diplomatic ties," to which Shannon replied, "She makes for an interesting friend, but, you know . . ." So apparently, Zeffy never really had any competition.)

Just a question: Is the manga any different from the anime?

I'll be looking forward to those icons, then. *g* I've been meaning to make a few of my own, but I never seem to get around to it . . .

Anyway, the manga is very different. The series by Yabuki Gou (published under the Dragon Comics imprint) focuses on novel characters that the anime neglected, like a Dragoon named Xi Wang Mu and a lady knight named Receita. As a result, it jumps around in the timeline and leaves out major characters like Chris, Leo, etc.

Then there's the manga by Ikeda Kei (published under the Kadokawa Comics Dragon Jr. imprint), which has only one tank released so far. That I know of, anyway. It's . . . a weird blend of major scenes, minor scenes, random weirdness, and some really over-the-top visual gags. It at least has the confrontation with Chris toward the beginning like the anime does, but it splits off radically after that.

At any rate, the art styles of both series annoy me, so I tend to ignore them. XD;

Heh, that's good to know, because if Zeffiris doesn't look so young, I would totally OTP her with Shannon (and just for the record, Shannon/Cernes is like...EWW). I don't think the Dragoon factor would matter too much if Kantarou/Haruka are okay.

Somehow, I love this pic, but of course it has NOTHING to do with Shannon's expression, or the tunic-like thing following so closely down the contours of one's buttcrack. XD

The idea was that certain enemies try to attack your weakest point instead of just attacking head-on. If an enemy were able to brainwash Shannon and Raquel and make them abandon their duty as Pacifica's guardians--or worse, force them to attack her themselves--that would be the worst possible situation. Of course they already know that the Peacemakers are capable of such an attack, but they also know that Pacifica is able to counter them. What Raquel is most concerned about is the possibility of a human enemy achieving the same results via hypnotic suggestion. Pacifica wouldn't be able to do anything about that, so Raquel figures it's best to have some kind of counter-measure prepared beforehand.

She came up with a sort of barrier against brainwashing that works by compacting Shannon's consciousness and forcing it deep within his mind, then constructing a sort of dummy consciousness to occupy the forefront of his mind and control his body's movements while his true consciousness lays dormant. That way the mind-controller would be fooled into thinking the dummy consciousness was indeed Shannon, target it, and attempt to control it. Doing so would awaken Shannon's true consciousness and bring it back to the forefront of his mind, untouched by the mind-controller's abilities. Well. In theory, anyway.

And of course it would take too much time and effort to construct a dummy consciousness from scratch, so she used Soupy-kun's (imaginary) soul instead.

You know? It's like, "You want mutual support and growth? I've got your mutual support and growth RIGHT HERE." Besides, they get that cute, couple-esque banter, and there's also the whole lovers separated by death only to find one another again via reincarnation thing.

It's really the only complaint I have re: his art style--we've already mentioned how even male characters end up looking vaguely boobtastic. OTOH, nothing in SutePri ever even comes CLOSE to being as ridiculous as his Ayanami Rei pr0n. Maybe I'm not the best person to judge, but I can't see how anyone could take those things seriously. XD;

You know, TokyoPop took the Sutepri novels off their site. That can't be good. If I had the slightest idea how to go about buying stuff internationally, I'd just get the originals and forget about waiting for the translation.... =\

At any rate, at least you've provided us with more pretty pictures to drool over! Shannon's looking quite good, I have to say. (Not that he isn't usually, of course...) *_*
