sutepri | Scrapped Princess: A mixed bag.

Hi there. I stumbled upon this community after watching the entirety of the anime series as of last night. I wanted to share a few observations, thoughts, and particular shipper-persuasions. But here's me:

How I discovered Scrapped Princess: It was actually recommended by a coworker of mine. I had been bitching about the lack of female asskickers found in anime, and he had heard that this particular series had some potent strong women. Turns out it wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but I *loved* the sibling camaraderie between Raquel, Shannon, and Pacifica. I thought the entire series should have been spent exploring that.

The character(s) I will defend with bike chains and broken beer bottles if I see anyone bashing him/her/them: Shannon. Shannon is great. Bring on the rather considerable overindulgent hairstyle (mullet?) and his nonchallance.

How I plan to contribute: I have the combined art skills of an especially ambitious toddler. Thus, no fangirl art from me. However, I have been playing around with a few possible fics, centering on, again, the sibling dynamic that I thought was the overall heart of the show. I also have some valid critiques of the series, which I hope will spark some debate and flagrant attempts at my life. :)

Level of exposure: The entirety of the anime.

How SutePri broke my brain: The last episode; the stabbing of the twins. I did *not* see that coming. Also, the Cz/Shannon/Pacifica/Raquel relationship in episode 8. And as much as I think amnesia is the biggest crock, I did enjoy the Pamela arc.

How it broke my heart: See above.

What I still don't understand: Okay, here we go... HOW did people find out that Pacifica was the Scrapped Princess, and thus, initiated the pain/death/sorrow of their father, and their eventual roadtrip? I mean, did they haphazardly mention to every passing person throughout her stay? Why was it common knowledge? And for that matter, why was she raised differently? Throughout the series, it had been alluded that she was exempt from chores, possessed a "dignity" that was not found in commoners... etc (which, by the way, I thought was ridiculous.) If she was truly a member of the family, how did she get out of learning how to *boil water* correctly? Wasn't it in her best interest to raise her without the knowledge of her being a princess?

Further Thoughts: I was thoroughly disappointed in the Pacifica character as a whole. I actually agreed with the Beast Princess's deduction that she relied far too heavily on her siblings for protection. It wasn't even sort of a request; it was a mandatory insistence. In that regard, it kept her a child of circumstance... I kept expecting her to rise up, or at least be aware of her weakness and privledge, and do something to rectify/accomodate it. Suffice to say, it never happened.
