RAQUEL. I love how she's clever on top of being good at magic. True, mage-types almost always have high INT stats, but that doesn't necessarily translate to an ability to adapt.
I got that too, that Chris was admitting a deeper defeat than just the fight in the glass valley. Like it says, he could have attacked Shannon from behind--and probably have managed to kill him--but he deliberately chose not too.
I doubt many other people could have looked at Chris and thought, "Yup. He just wants what Pacifica has."
A lot of that is due to the pic's composition. That said, evey_w recently asked about Chris's age as well, but I lacked a proper answer. I was flipping back through one of the later novels, though, and it turns out he's 15--same as Pacifica and Forsyth. Makes sense.
It is an interesting juxtaposition, one being sorrowful and the other menacing. That hadn't occurred to me before.
The implication is that Shannon shattered all their kneecaps after Raquel used Mjölnir to knock them out.
(By the way, feel free to throw out some prompts, if you are so inclined.)
