It does make me wonder about this Beckenham guy. At first I was thinking...maybe he configured Zefiris to look like a child to confuse/surprise the enemy, but then it occurred to me that those are aliens, so they probably don't even care. So.

While I can only speculate what Zefiris might be thinking, regardless of what she originally might have wanted to look like, she is probably attached to the form she is in now just because it was Beckenham who configured her to look like that.
